This year from May 27th - March 2018, the V&A in London are holding an exhibition to mark the 100th Anniversary of Balenciaga's first fashion house. To celebrate this and Balenciaga's immeasurable contribution to fashion, Sizers are giving away two free tickets to the event*!
Christobel Balenciaga was born on January 21st 1895 in the small Spanish fishing town of Getaria. He would go on to become arguably one of the biggest names in the fashion world and a pioneer in changing the way women dressed.
He opened his first boutique in 1919 in San Sebastian, Spain.
However during the Spanish civil war, Balenciaga was forced to move to Paris where within only a couple of years he was labeled a revolutionary by the french press. His clothing was so sought after that customers were willing to risk their safety by travelling to Europe during WWII just to see his designs.
He was referred to as 'The King of Fashion' by the likes of Christian Dior.
The V&A "exhibition examines the work and legacy of influential Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, with over 100 pieces crafted by ‘the master’ of couture, his protégées and contemporary fashion designers working in the same innovative tradition."
